FIFA have confirmed the decisions of its Disciplinary Committee in the case involving West Ham United and Diafra Sakho by fining the club £71,000 for breaching the rules.

The breach occured when Sakho withdrew from Senegal’s Africa Cup of Nations squad with a back injury, but appeared and scored 18 days later in West Ham’s FA Cup win over Bristol City.

The Senegalese FA had been informed by West Ham United that Sakho was prevented from playing and travelling by plane due to injury and thus he did not join the Senegal team.

West Ham have escaped expulsion from the FA Cup and both club and player have been reprimanded but fined 100,000 Swiss francs (£71,000) for violating art. 5 of Annexe 1 of the Regulations.

Sakho should be available for West Ham’s Premier League home match against Manchester United on Sunday.
