The season of work permit issues continues for Nigerian players, the latest in the mire is Ejike Uzoenyi.

The attacking midfielder signed a deal with South African league champions Mamelodi Sundowns before the World Cup.

Uzoenyi has however been unable to join up with his new team due to delays over obtaining a work permit. The 26-year-old told SL10 that he is yet to receive feedback from the South African Embassy.

“I submitted my application after the World Cup, I mean after the final game between Germany and Argentina. We have been told that the embassy can call me at any time to pick up the document, but I’ve not heard from them yet. For now, I’m keeping fit little by little, training with my former team, Enugu Rangers.”

Uzoenyi is contracted to the Pretoria-based outfit till 2018.

This situation is similar to that of Super Eagles forward Brown Ideye, who also had delays obtaining a work permit to play for West Brom in the English Premier League.
