Uzoenyi returns to Nigeria
Despite rumours of a move to South Africa, Ejike Uzoenyi appears to be returning to the Nigerian Premier League.
Following some outstanding showings at the recent Championship of African Nations, the Super Eagles winger Ejike Uzoenyi looked to be set for a move away from Nigeria. The international was linked with the likes of Supersport United, Mamelodi Sundowns and Orlando Pirates and remained in South Africa after the CHAN to undertake trials.
However, no deal has been agreed, with none of the aforementioned clubs opting to take a punt on the talented midfielder.
Speaking to Supersport, Uzoenyi revealed that he had returned to Nigeria, but that he hadn’t given up hope of making a move: “I’m back in Nigeria now after holding talks with a club in South Africa. Nothing has been agreed upon yet but my manager will continue to discuss with them.”
Despite being largely overlooked for the Nigeria squad for the latter part of 2013, Uzoenyi will be hopeful that his excellent showings during the CHAN might force a World Cup recall.
