Stephen Keshi has opted to replace injured left-back Elderson Echiejile with attacker Ejike Uzonenyi.

Losing a first-team regular to injury just days before the kick-off of a major event like the World Cup is a situation highly dreaded by nations.

For Nigeria, Echiejile’s injury has not only thrown the practicability of some of Keshi’s tactics out of the window but has also weakened a very crucial part of the team—the defence. However, there was always going to be room to replace the injured player and Keshi has opted to replace the left-back with a left-footed attacker, Ejike Uzoenyi.

Had there been an equally-competent left-back to fill-in, this move shouldn’t have raised as much eyebrows as it has done. But in this case, Juwon Oshaniwa isn’t quite that player, yet.

So, what’s Keshi’s plan? To correct a mistake or is it purely tactical? Or are we going to see the Enugu Rangers man at left-back?

Let’s watch and see.
