Teenage star Balde Keita opts for Spain
Lazio teenager Keita Balde Diao has rejected an approach from Senegal, as he would prefer to represent his country of birth, Spain.
The 18-year-old, who has become an important part of the Serie A side this season, was born in Arbucias, Cataluña to Senegalese parents.
His performances for the Rome-based side caught the attention of Senegal manager Alain Giresse, but the Frenchman has confirmed that the youngster had opted for Spain.
“I spoke to his club and they let me know Keita has chosen Spain,” explained Giresse, via Football Italia.
“He was born in that country, so it is normal he has made this decision to play for Spain.”
Keita spent his youth career at the Barcelona youth academy before moving to Lazio in the summer of 2011.
