Shearer slams Cisse’s value to Magpies

Newcastle United legend Alan Shearer believes the Magpies would have been better playing with 10 men than start Papiss Cisse.

It’s been a sorry start to the campaign for the Toon, who are level on points with local rivals Sunderland, at the bottom of the table.

The former Newcastle striker feels the Senegal international offered nothing to the club, as they lost 2-0 to West Ham on Monday in the Premier League.

“There was not enough hunger from Newcastle to win. West Ham had more drive and pace. At no point did I ever think they would win.” Shearer told bein Sports.

“I looked at Cisse and thought Newcastle would have been better off with 10 men. And it’s not just Cisse – Thauvin showed nothing.”

Cisse was left out of Senengal’s Africa Cup of Nations 2017 qualifier that won against Namibia earlier this month, and has scored once for his club since February, on the opening day of the season against Southampton.

Newcastle are the lowest scorers in the division with two league goals, which ironically sees Cisse as the club’s top scorer with a single goal.
