Kwesi Appiah has officially joined Championship side Reading on loan for the remainder of the season.

Africa Football Shop reported yesterday that the Ghana striker was on the verge of a move to the Royals from Crystal Palace, and that deal has now been completed.

The 24-year-old will not be available for Reading’s FA Cup semi-final showdown with Arsenal at Wembley, as he is cup-tied.

However, Appiah will be available for important games against basement side Blackpool, league-leaders Bournemouth, relegation-threatened Rotherham and high-flying Derby away, on the final day of the season.

Reading boss Steve Clarke has admitted there has been a lot of interest in Appiah, who had spent earlier parts of the season on loan at Cambridge United in League Two.

“When the opportunity arose to bring Kwesi here until the end of the season I felt it was the right thing to do.” Clarke told the club’s official website.

“Kwesi is a striker with different attributes to those already at the club. He hasn’t had too many opportunities since returning to Palace after a successful African Cup of Nations tournament with Ghana and we are hopeful that he will enhance his growing reputation while helping us to finish the season positively.”

Appiah signed a new two-year deal with Palace just last week, and could make his Royals debut at home to Cardiff City, once he returns from international duty.
