Odemwingie ready for new beginning
Peter Odemwingie has described his return as a ‘new beginning’ after suffering an injury away to Manchester City this season.
Odemwingie needed surgery on a knee injury sustained during Stoke City’s shock away victory at the Etihad Stadium, meaning he was not named in boss Mark Hughes’ 25-man Premier League squad. The Nigeria international now must wait until January before he get back to action for the Potters.
“I’m happy the operation was successful, it’s like a new beginning,” The 33-year-old told BBC Sport.
“I want to come back stronger than ever and hopefully pick up from where I stopped in August.”
Odemwingie’s arrival from Cardiff City at the Britannia Stadium in January saw him score five goals in 15 appearances, and will be missed by Stoke over the coming months.
“I know it’s going to be a long road back to kicking a football again but I am mentally prepared for that. You can’t keep a good man down,” Odemwingie continued.
“Now that it’s done I believe it will give me a new lease of life for the rest of my professional career.”
