Nigeria international Chinedu Obasi is targeting a return to the national team of Nigeria following his impressive displays for Schalke 04.

Obasi was on hand to help his German-based club secure a 4-3 win over Sporting Lisbon in the Champions League on Tuesday.

He brought his team back on level terms with a header on the half-hour mark after Nani had put the visitors ahead in the 16th minute.

Not resting on his goal, he then turned provider as he assisted Dutch forward Klaas Jan Huntelaar for his 51st minute strike following an intelligent run from Julian Draxler.

With the recent appointment of Shaibu Amodu as interim coach of Nigeria, the skillful winger, who has not played for the national team since the 3-1 loss to Argentina in September 2011, is hoping for a return to the Super Eagles team.

“I have not been in the Super Eagles for a long time but I hope they qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations,” Obasi was quoted by the Daily Independent.

“We will see (if I’m invited) but it will be nice to be back in the team,” he added.
