LuaLua named Player of the Month
Brighton and Hove Albion’s Kazenga LuaLua has been named the Championship’s Player of the Month after a great start to the season.
The DR Congo-born winger isn’t known for his goalscoring attributes as much as his other qualities, but has already netted three times this season, with two of those decisive goals.
LuaLua has hit the ground running since returning for pre-season for Albion, after suffering a knee injury which hampered his season last campaign, scoring winners against Nottingham Forest and Blackburn Rovers.
“It was very special just to be nominated for the award and to win is a very special moment for me, but the most important thing is that the team has started the season very well.” LuaLua told the Football League.
“I did work a lot in the summer to make sure I came into pre-season in good shape which has paid off so far, but I just want to keep going. ”
Brighton boast a record of four wins and a draw in their opening five league fixtures, while their only loss this season has been away to Walsall in the second round of the League Cup.
Seagulls boss Chris Hughton added: “Kaz thoroughly deserves the award, he’s had a wonderful start. There were really good signs of it during pre-season and he came back in good shape.
“We were able to do a lot of work with him and he’s grown in confidence, but the area where he has excelled in his game is where he has got on the ball and provided an end product.”
The 24-year-old started his career at Newcastle United, but is yet to represent DR Congo at international level.
