Kone: Everton must go all out in Kiev
Everton’s Ivoran striker Arouna Kone insists The Toffee’s must go all out to win in Kiev next week to guarantee a last-eight place in the Europa League.
A draw would be enough for Everton to progress after defeating Dynamo Kiev 2-1 at Goodison on Thursday evening.
But Kone says they must go into the second-leg with the intention to win to guarantee progression.
“We will be ready for Kiev and this result will give us confidence – we won’t go there with any fear,” declared Kone in a post-match interview.
“We realise that although a draw will do us and we will go through if we avoid defeat, we must go there in a positive manner, going for the win and knowing, in the back of our minds, that avoiding defeat will be good enough.”
Kone though lamented the players disappointment at conceding an away goal.
“It was a good comeback but, in an ideal world, we would have liked not to concede but it is a game of football after all and things can happen but we have learnt enough from this game and have enough confidence and motivation going to Kiev,” Kone added.
“Everything is still to play for and everything will be decided on the night in Kiev but we can go there with confidence after coming back and getting the win last night.”
