Koeman praises Mane debut
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman praised Saido Mane after making his debut in the Saints’ victory at Arsenal in the Capital One Cup.
Koeman’s side overcame the Gunners to go through to the next round of the League Cup, but the performance of £10 million Mane stood out for the Dutchman. It was the Senegal international who won the South Coast club a penalty, after Tomas Rosicky tripped the midfielder in the box.
After work permit issues the 22-year-old was finally aloud to pay back Southampton fans for the long wait and the Dutchman admired Mane’s performance.
“It was very positive,”Koeman told the Daily Echo. “I think he showed his qualities and he’s very fast.
“He’s a player who likes to play one-against-one. He likes to run in space behind the defence of the opponents and that’s a great quality.
“That’s one of the qualities we missed in front until now, and he brings that in, and that’s very positive.”
The former Red Bull Salzburg man will hope his debut was enough to earn him his first Premier League appearance at home to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday.
