Keita: I was close to joining Liverpool
Mali international Seydou Keita was officially presented as a Valencia player on Monday and he revealed that he turned down an offer from Liverpool to join the La Liga side.
Speaking at his first press conference since his free transfer from Chinese outfit Dalian Aerbin, Keita admitted to being in “advanced talks” to join the Merseysiders but didn’t think twice when Los Che called.
“I had very advanced talks with Liverpool but when my agent told me Valencia called for me, I gave the go ahead, I didn’t think twice, they are a great club”
“After winning everything at Barcelona, coming to Valencia puts more pressure on me. I wanted to get back to playing at the highest level under pressure.”
Keita enjoyed a successful four-year spell in Spain winning 15 trophies with both Sevilla and Barcelona. The Mali midfielder joins Valencia on a six month contract and he hopes to replicate his success at the Mestalla.
“It’s been a long time that only Barcelona and Real Madrid were fighting for La Liga, now Atletico is too. La Liga is still the best championship in the world. I hope to do here what I did in Sevilla.”
