Ivory Coast president Alassane Ouattara is giving each member of the Ivory Coast squad, which won only their second ever Africa Cup of Nations title on Sunday, a house worth £34,000 and same the same amount in cash.
After their 9-8 victory on penalties over Ghana in the final, which finished in the same manor as the previous final Les Elephants won in 1992, the Ivorian Football Federation were also rewarded for the part they played.
The government handed out over £2 million in rewards for the players, technical staff and the FIF in celebration of a special occassion for the country.
However, it wasn’t all so bad for the Ghanaian team either. Each being given £16,000 for their efforts by the team sponsor Ghana National Petroleum Corporation, although Ghana’s sports minister believes this was too low.
