Chelsea are understood to be monitoring Porto midfielder Giannelli Imbula, who joined the Portuguese club for £17.5 million in the summer.

Imbula has become a target for struggling current Premier League champions Chelsea, who had the chance to watch him up close in their Champions League encounter with the Portuguese giants recently.

Reports from CalcioMercato suggest that the Blues are monitoring his current situation, with the 23-year-old Congolese France Under-21 understood to be struggling to adapt to life with Porto.

He has also been a target for Chelsea’s London rivals Tottenham Hotspur, having come close to a move to Inter Milan over the summer, before Porto stepped up their efforts to acquire the former Marseille man.

Imbula made 66 league appearances for Marseille, before drawing the attention of teams from across Europe, including Southampton, and making a move to the Primeira Liga.
