West Ham United secured a thrilling victory over Swansea City thanks to superb performances from Andy Carroll and Diafra Sakho.

During the first half, it looked like Wilfried Bony would once again steal the show.

The Ivorian opened the scoring with a typically powerful strike after excellent work from Jefferson Montero and Gylfi Sigurdsson. The ex-Vitesse Arnhem man could have added a second, but another effort flew just wide of the post.

Bony’s goal was his 19th of 2014 and sets him apart as the EPL’s top scorer during the calendar year.

However, it was not to be his day.

Andy Carroll, having returned to fitness, was in influential form and scored two headers. Firstly to draw level and secondly to push the Hammers ahead.

Diafra Sakho entered for the second half and also delivered a terrific performance. He was quiet for his first 15 minutes after replacing Enner Valencia, but before too long, his speed and movement began to tell.

The Senegal forward hit the post twice, ensured that Lukasz Fabianski was sent off, before finishing emphatically late on.

The victory pushes the Hammers up to third place in the Premier League.
