Bony replaces Jovetic in City’s UCL squad

Stevan Jovetic has been replaced with Wilfried Bony on Manchester City’s squad list for the forthcoming UEFA Champions League action.

Bony became the most expensive African ever after he signed a four-and-a-half-year deal with Manuel Pellegrini’s team from Swansea City for a fee worth £28 million in the just concluded transfer window.

However, his inclusion meant City had 17 foreigners but, as part of their punishment for failing Financial Fair Play, they could only register 16 in European competitions this season.

Hence, Jovetic, who failed to score in five UCL group matches, was omitted to pave way for the Ivorian forward.

Earlier reports had indicated it would have been either be Aleksandar Kolarov or Willy Caballero to be dropped from the list but instead, it was the Montenegrin who paved way for Bony.

City host Spanish side Barcelona in the last 16 of Europe’s top club competition on February 24 before the return leg at Nou Camp three weeks later.
