Ba criticises Besiktas fans

Senegal striker Demba Ba believes that better support from the Besiktas fans could have helped the Black Eagles progress in the Europa League.

Besiktas surrendered a lead for the second time in the last 16 tie by losing 1-3 on the night to bow out of the competition to Club Brugge 5-2 on aggregate.

Besiktas goalkeeper Tolga Zengin was booed by the fans with the game level at 1-1 and Ba has suggested that more support could have helped them take the game into extra-time.

“We believed in ourselves before the game and outplayed Brugge in first half,” Ba told the media after the game.

“In the second half we scored but, by the end of the game, it was over for us.

“I’m proud of my team-mates because we put in a good performance tonight. The fans should have supported us better when the tie was level at 1-1 – if they had done, maybe we would be in the last eight right now.”

Ba and Besiktas now turn their attention to the Super Lig where they will be aiming to maintain their position at the top of the table. They face arch-rivals Fenerbache on Sunday.
