Cambridge United made Elliott Omozusi their fifth summer signing with the Leyton Orient defender signing a two-year contract.

Omozusi suffered relegation with Leyton Orient last season, meaning League Two football for the Nigerian. However, he hopes to guide his new club into League One this term.

“I am looking forward to getting out there and just playing football for this club. We all hope for a strong season, but I’m sure quietly we will believe that there is a good chance to get promoted,” Omozusi told the club’s official website.

“Going into next year, the club has got a very good basis having signed some top quality players, so it’s onwards and upwards.”

Omozusi could have been a Championship player had his side managed to win in the Play-Off final two seasons ago, but now is looking ahead to life in the fourth tier of English football.

The 26-year-old is confident United have the firepower to compete at the top of the table: “I think we have a strong foundation at the back and will be looking threatening going forward too.”
