Chelsea striker Didier Drogba has ended speculation he could join former Ligue 1 club Marseille this summer.

The former Ivory Coast international announced last season that he would leave Stamford Bridge this summer for more game time.

Drogba, 37, who made 46 appearances for Marseille, has rejected the chance to return to the club he spent one season with back in the 2003/04 season.

“There comes a time when it has to stop. I didn’t ask for any of this. I love the Marseille fans, and I am myself a Marseille supporter, but they have to stop throwing around rumours like that because it’s starting to get too much.”Drogba told journalists.

He helped Marseille to the UEFA Cup final during his short stint at the club, while he has recently been linked with a move to Major League Soccer.

It is thought New York Red Bulls are interested in the striker’s services and that Drogba would strongly consider a move to the US.
