AFSTZ: Africans staying at Southampton 100%
Southampton boss Ronald Koeman has quashed any possibility of either Victor Wanyama or Sadio Mane leaving St Mary’s this summer.
The Dutchman has ruled out the chance of want-away Victor Wanyama or Senegal international Sadio Mane leaving before the transfer window closes on Tuesday.
Wanyama is understood to want to link up with former Saints boss Mauricio Pochettino at Tottenham, who are keen on the Kenya midfielder. While Manchester United want Southampton’s winger, Mane.
“They will stay in Southampton, I’m 100 per cent sure about that.” Koeman told Sky Sports.
“The same answer for Victor as for Sadio, we don’t sell that kind of player because they are key players for the team and they have to respect the contract. That’s most important.”
Wanyama has been left out of the Saints squad for the past two matches and Koeman demands the 24-year-old behaves like his teammate.
“If they are like before, it is no problem, but they have to show the commitment that Sadio is showing, and that leaves Victor to do [the same].”
United are thought to already have had a bid turned down for Mane by Southampton.
