AFSTZ: Abdennour joins Los Che
Tunisia international Aymen Abdennour has joined Spanish side Valencia on a five-year deal from Ligue 1 club AS Monaco for £22 million.
The 26-year-old had been heavily linked with Premier League clubs including champions Chelsea, Liverpool and West Ham.
However, the defender has chosen to join Valencia, in order to play in what he describes at the “best league in the world”.
“I chose Valencia CF out of all the offers I received, because it is a big club in Spain and Europe,” Abdennour told the club’s website.
“I had no doubts. I am happy to be here and to be part of an ambitious and serious project, and I would like to thank the technical staff, Lay Hoon and Peter Lim.”
Abdennour has previously played for Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga and Toulouse, before joining Monaco on loan last in January last year.
His successful loan spell earned him a permanent move to Monaco, causing him to generate interest from some of Europe’s biggest sides.
Valencia chairwoman Lay Hoon Chan believes Abdennour is one of the best defenders in Europe and hopes his potential could see him become even better during his time in Spain.
“I am happy that he has shown great interest and commitment in our project at the very first moment.” Chan added.
