1. Yaya Toure

AFS1: Yaya Toure, Cote d’Ivoire & Manchester City

It feels like quite a while since Yaya Toure has generated positive headlines.

Too often, throughout the summer, the player’s qualities have been submerged amidst a whole array of allegations and acrimony (some, perhaps, justified).

At times, we at AFS Towers deliberated whether Enyeama should make the Number 1 spot in this list, pushing Yaya back to Number 2.

In the end, the Ivorian was impossible to ignore.

The central midfielder scored a remarkable 20 goals in 25 appearances for the Citizens last season as they claimed their second EPL title in three years. Putting this into context, only one other central midfielder (Frank Lampard) has broken the 20-goal mark in the Premier League era.

On bad days, admittedly, Toure can be a liability….but when he’s good, he’s capable of performing like no one else from Africa.
