Nigeria international Kenneth Omeruo started for Middlesbrough, however, he could not save them from suffering defeat to Leeds United.

Kenneth Omeruo, who is on loan at the Riverside from Chelsea, suffered a 1-0 defeat with the Championship club away to Leeds.

Injury to Ben Gibson in Boro’s first game meant the Nigerian defender kept his place after coming on as a substitute on his debut last week.

The 20-year-old defender kept a close eye on ex-Manchester United and new Leeds signing Nicky Ajose, who is of Nigeria descent. However, it was Billy Sharp who struck the game’s lone goal two minutes from time to cap-off his impressive performance.

The Nigerian, who was on for 90 minutes, will be disappointed by the defeat, which gave their hopes of gaining promotion to Premier League an early blow.
