Despite Ghana’s off-field World Cup controversies (which, naturally, dominated the post-tournament headlines) there were some positives for the Black Stars to take from the campaign.
The sustained development of Andre Ayew is one.
The playmaker has matured a great deal at Marseille over the last campaign. Despite starting only 24 games (11 fewer than the season before) he scored six goals (only three fewer than in 2012-13).
He also contributed three assists and was Man of the Match on two occasions.
In Brazil he scored twice in three games and was the Black Stars’ outstanding performer.
With only one year left on his OM contract, Ayew might be destined for pastures new. Liverpool and Newcastle United have been named as potential suitors in the English press, but UAE giants Al Jazira might seek to tempt the playmaker to the Gulf.
