Algeria’s first representative in the AFS20 is striker Islam Slimani.
The forward wasn’t included in the starting line-up for the Fennecs’ World Cup opener against Belgium. However, after replacing Al Arbi Hillel Soudani during that match, he started the North Africans’ next three matches.
He didn’t disappoint, scoring in the rout of South Korea and also bagging the crucial goal against Russia in Curitiba. This was the goal—scored in the 60th minute—which gave Algeria their first-ever Last-16 appearance.
After winning the Algerian golden ball, and plundering eight league goals in his first season in Portugal, Slimani has attracted interest from the Premier League.
