If there is any player to watch in the Cameroon side during the 2015 AFCON in Equatorial Guinea, it none other than Stephane Mbia.Ansah

Mbia, who is the current captain of the Indomitable Lions following the retirement of the legendary Samuel Eto’o, has a lot to offer his side. His leadership qualities during the 2015 African Cup of Nations qualifiers were magnificent. He helped his team overcome their 2014 FIFA World Cup problems and helped rediscover a sense of unity.

The 28-year-old has been with the Cameroonian national team through the youth ranks and has been part of their AFCON team since 2008. This shows that he has the experience to help the Central African country claim the ultimate continental prize.

The Sevilla player’s versatility has been his strongest weapon during his football career. The midfielder is very combative, a tough tackler, ball-winner and uses his strong body to make good interceptions on the field of play. The ex-Queens Park Rangers man is the player to watch for Cameroon as he is very effective and efficient with or without the ball.

While he is likely to operate in the centre of defence for the Indomitable Lions, doubts remain about Mbia’s fitness. He was injured on La Liga duty for Sevilla and risks being short of match fitness during the group stage.

The retirement of key players Eto’o, Alex Song and Jean II Makoun brings a lot of responsibilities upon the shoulders of Mbia, but with his charisma he will stand out tall among his peers as 2015 AFCON begins. The Europa League winner won’t be eligible to play in Cameroon’s opening game against Mali due to a dubious red card received in the final qualifier against the Cote d’Ivoire.

In this post-Eto’o era, Mbia holds the key for the Indomitable Lions.
