Match Preview: Cameroon vs. DR Congo
With Ivory Coast’s impressive win over Sierra Leone on Friday, the clash between Cameroon and DR Congo takes on added significance.
The Leopards are welcomed into the den of the Indomitable Lions at 1500 (CET) on Saturday.
Cameroon are top of the group, a point above the Elephants and four above DRC, and will seal qualification with victory or a draw. However, a loss here would make the group truly interesting, especially with Florent Ibenge’s men set to host whipping boys Sierra Leone on Wednesday.
This would mean Cameroon go into their final group game against Ivory Coast in Abidjan needing to get at least a point to qualify.
For their part, DRC need the three points here, but could realistically be content with a draw. In the eventuality of a tie, they would go into the final group games needing to beat Sierra Leone, while hoping that Ivory Coast do not win against Cameroon.
This sets up the group very nicely for a photo finish, and with DR Congo resurgent, Cameroon would do well to keep on their guard and not spoil all their good work so far.
