South Africa head coach Shakes Mashaba has praised his side for showing ‘grit’ after they came from behind to draw 1-1 in a friendly against Cameroon.

As preparations for the upcoming Africa Cup of Nations to be held in Equatorial Guinea from the 17th of this month intensify, Bafana Bafana clashed with the Indomitable Lions in Gabon to sharpen themselves ahead the tournament.

Though the Central Africans, who are known for their physicality, took the lead in the opening minutes, the South Africans dragged themselves back into the game and equalized later on. Their coach, Mashaba, however, praised his side for adapting their game in time to secure a draw.

“We create chances but we don’t finish them off,” said Mashaba via Kick Off.

“We planned well, we knew what to expect. They are a good side, very experienced and hard-working. They were all over us in the opening 30 minutes but my boys were very resilient and withstood the pressure and showed great grit. We knew we would come back and come back we did in the second half. The Cameroonians gave us what to expect in Equatorial Guinea,”
