Keshi turns to uncapped trio
Nigeria boss Stephen Keshi has included the uncapped trio of Ramon Azeez, Imoh Ezekiel and Michael Uchebo in his squad to face Mexico on March 5 in a friendly.
With so few opportunities remaining for the Big Boss to assess players ahead of the World Cup, this match takes on tremendous importance. Ezekiel, Azeez and Uchebo now have a fine opportunity to impress ahead of the main event this summer.
Standard Liege striker Ezekiel (pictured) has continued his fine form of last season and has scored nine goals in the Belgian league so far this term. With some of Nigeria’s current collection of forwards struggling for both form and goals, his inclusion looks like a direct step to remedy this weakness.
Azeez has been viewed as a potential solution to a selection dilemma in the midfield, while Uchebo, another player based in Belgium, can also contribute goals.
The squad selection, as reported by BBC Sport, also sees the return of Juwon Oshaniwa. The versatile defender travelled to the Cup of Nations in early 2013 and even made a brief cameo in the final, but has been overlooked ever since. He now has a golden opportunity to force his way into Keshi’s World Cup plans.
