DONE DEAL: Stambouli signs for Spurs
Tottenham have completed the signing of midfielder Benjamin Stambouli, the club announced on its official website.
The French-born former youth international joins from Montpellier on a five-year contract.
The 24-year-old, who is eligible to play for Algeria at senior level, played a key role in Montpellier’s unlikely Ligue 1 triumph in 2012. Until his signing, he was vice-captain at Montpellier. Stambouli has been capped 14 times for France at U21 level.
Stambouli is the club’s sixth summer signing.
The North London club had hoped to bring in Southampton midfielder Morgan Schneiderlin as an upgrade on the departing Sandro. However, with new boss Ronald Koeman adamant about keeping the influential midfielder at St. Mary’s, Spurs have moved quickly to snap up the highly-rated tough-tackling defensive midfielder.
