Choupo-Moting helps Schalke to defeat Dortmund
Cameroon internationals Joel Matip and Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting struck to secure a derby win for Schalke over Ruhr rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday.
The Veltins-Arena witnessed a blistering, breathless start from both sides, and it was the hosts who took the lead after just 10 minutes. Centre-back Matip found himself unmarked at the far post, heading in from a corner.
It was 2-0 on 23 minutes. Matip met another corner, forcing a fine save from Roman Weidenfeller in the Dortmund goal, but the visitors failed to clear their lines and Choupo-Moting crashed the ball home into the corner.
Gabon international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang pulled one back for Dortmund three minutes later, finishing an Adrian Ramos cross, but the scoreline stayed the same for the rest of the game to secure bragging rights for the Royal Blues.
There was also an appearance by Ghana international Kevin-Prince Boateng.
