Rwanda thrown out of AFCON
Reports coming out of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) are that the Rwandan national team has been disqualified from the group stage qualifiers for next year’s Afcon.
This decision was reached and announced Sunday.
This is the fall-out from the realisation that the Wasps fielded an ineligible player in Birori Dady, who holds a Congolese passport. The player was then renamed Etekiama Agiti Tady, with his age reduced, and fielded by the Rwandans in the first leg of their qualifier against DR Congo.
With this decision, the DR Congo national team will replace Rwanda in Group A of the qualifying round, which includes defending champions Nigeria, South Africa and Sudan.
The possibility of further sanctions, both against the player in question and the Rwanda FA, remains open to CAF.
