Be nice to Adebayor – Pochettino
Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino has urged Spurs fans to be nice to former player Emmanuel Adebayor when they face Crystal Palace on Sunday.
Speaking ahead of Sunday’s FA Cup fifth round clash with the Adebayor’s new side Crystal Palace, Tottenham manager Pochettino said: “I think we need to show respect and make sure our fans help the team go through to the next round. This is our challenge.
“We spent one year together and he showed respect to us.”
The Argentine added: “I think our fans will give a good welcome to Ade because he played for Tottenham. He scored a lot of goals for Tottenham. Sometimes in football you have a good or bad period.
“The last season for him was a very difficult one. He had a lot of personal problems but I was always available to speak with him and the relationship was fantastic.”
But Pochettino insisted there would be no bad blood when Adebayor faces his former Tottenham team-mates.
“The players don’t need me to tell them anything.” he said. “They are focused on the game.
“It’s good to see Ade and say hello, but we are focused on the game. I think our supporters are fantastic but they will only focus and try to help us win and go to the next round of the FA Cup.”
Adebayor has vowed to celebrate if he scores against his former side. The striker revealed earlier in the week that his relationship with Pochettino was good but Spurs chairman Daniel Levy was complicated.
Tottenham welcome Crystal Palace to White Hart Lane at 15:00 on Sunday aiming to progress from the fifth round of the FA Cup.
