Masinga salutes Mashaba courage
Philemon Masinga believes Bafana Bafana manager Shakes Mashaba is on the right track, and has saluted the boldness of his squad selection.
The recently-appointed South Africa boss openly stated that the focus would be on the future, and backed up his words by selecting a young team.
The likes of under-20 goalkeeper Dumisani Msibi and 17-year-old Rivaldo Coetzee have been named in the new squad, and while it is unlikely that incumbent number one Itumeleng Khune will be replaced immediately, the thought is clearly to build a core of youngsters.
Masinga, himself a Bafana Bafana great in his playing days, told KickOff, “I’m happy to see that we have a coach who is bold and who will pick players without any experience and bring them into the senior team.
“That shows that he (Mashaba) wants to see changes quicker in South African football. We can’t rely on older players. It’s better to bring in those who are young, who can learn. After four years, that boy will be ready to face all the difficulties that he is supposed to be facing at the age of 24,” Masinga averred.
