Ba admits Gunners dream
Besiktas striker Demba Ba has conceded that his dream move to Arsenal was close to a done deal before joining the Turkish side this summer.
The Senegal striker admitted a deal was nearly done with the North London club just as his new side were sent for the exit at the Champions League qualification stage by Arsenal. However, Ba believes he has made a good move, even though the chance to sign for Arsene Wenger has now disappeared.
“I’m happy at Besiktas,” Ba told the Independent. “How close did I come to joining Arsenal? As close as you and me here, but it’s past. I just look forwards.”
The £8 million signing left Chelsea this summer as he fell down the pecking order following the £32 million capture of Diego Costa from Atletico Madrid.
“Everybody knew that I wanted to come here [to Arsenal]. I could have maybe waited longer in this transfer window, but I wanted to go and play for Besiktas because it’s a great club.” Ba added.
The former Chelsea man did however, deny that Blues boss Jose Mourinho wouldn’t allow him to join a rival club, stating: “He said this time if I had any opportunity he would let me go.”
