Former Ghana skipper Stephen Appiah has added his voice to many more that want Sulley Muntari and Michael Essien back in the Black Stars’ fold.

The retired box-to-box midfielder says the AC Milan duo should be considered for the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations due to their improved performances under coach Filippo Inzaghi at the Italian club.

“They are my friends and not that because they are my friends I want them back in the team,” Appiah, who was recently added to the technical team ahead of the forthcoming showpiece, told Ghanasoccernet.

Coincidentally, Muntari is currently serving an indefinite suspension for assaulting a Ghana FA official during the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, and he can only be considered if he makes an official apology.

For former Chelsea midfield anchor Essien, he is not facing any real disciplinary action with the GFA, despite refusing to warm up in Ghana’s final World Cup game against Portugal. He has since not been called up for national duty.

“But then they are playing at AC Milan and they are doing well. So I think we need them back in the team.” Appiah stated.

The four-time Africa champions Ghana are pitted with Senegal, Algeria and South Africa in Group C – dubbed the tournament ‘Group of Death’.
