AFSTZ: Hammers sign Gabonese midfielder
West Ham United have confirmed the signing of Sampdoria midfielder Pedro Obiang on a four-year deal for an undisclosed fee.
The Daily Mail had recently been reporting that the Spain Under-21 was very close to signing for the Hammers, despite interest from Stoke City.
Obiang scored three goals in 34 league appearances last season, as one of their star performers who lead them to Europa League qualification with a seventh-placed finish.
“I went on holiday after the season had finished and I was looking forward to receiving that call to tell me where and when to sign for this Club.” Obiang told the club’s official website.
“I’m very excited to play in the Premier League. It’s a style of football that will help me to progress as a player and as a person, so it will be very good.”
He is new manager Slaven Bilic’s first signing for the club, since becoming their manager in the past day.
