Nigeria stopper Vincent Enyeama came within a whisker of topping this list. The goalkeeper had an absolutely stunning year.
In Ligue 1 he came within minutes of breaking Gaetan Huard’s long-standing record of 1062 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal.
While he ultimately didn’t match Huard, Enyeama demonstrated that he was a keeper playing at the absolute pinnacle of the profession.
He also managed to help LOSC Lille to Champions League qualification.
Finally, Enyeama also proved his worth for the Super Eagles during the World Cup. Admittedly, his fumble opened the door for France to take the lead in the Round of 16, but Nigeria wouldn’t have even been in that position had it not been for Enyeama’s prowess earlier in the contest or, particularly, in the decisive group match against Bosnia-Herzegovina.
