AFS TOTW – Die, Musa & Gradel star

With no English Premier League action for African players over the weekend, the Africa Football Shop Team of the Week is dominated by players from no fewer than six different leagues.

African performers were again among the key protagonists in European leagues and the first round of the new Major League Soccer season.

Ghana’s Adam Kwarasey makes the AFS TOTW after keeping a clean sheet for Portland Timbers against Real Salt Lake in the MLS opener.

The AFS TOTW back-line has two new comers in the shape of Daniel Amartey and Allan Nyom. Amartey was instrumental in FC Copenhagen’s 3-0 demolition of Brondby while Nyom helped Granada to a 1-0 win of Malaga. Joel Matip was a rock in defence for Schalke as they run-out 3-1 winners over Hoffenheim.

AFS TOTW 6th - 9th March 2015-update

In our five man midfield, Serey Die put up a man of the match performance as his struggling Stuttgart held on for a point against Hertha Berlin. Ghanaians Lloyd Sam and Andre Ayew were goalscorers for New York Red Bulls and Marseille respectively. Sam’s Red Bull were unable to claim all three points but Ayew’s Marsellie secured a convincing away at Toulouse.

Nigerian Ahmed Musa scored the only goal for CSKA to secure maximum as the Russian Premier League resumed after the winner break. Ivorian Max Gradel was a fine form for St. Etienne and scored on the 90th minute as his side claimed all three points at Lorient.

Veteran Samuel Eto’o makes the AFS TOTW after leading Sampdoria to victory of strugglers Cagliari. The Cameroonian doubled Sampdoria lead on the 72nd minute. Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting completes the two-pronged Cameroon attack this week after a fantastic display for Schalke. Missing from his game was a goal but his effort was enough to make the team.
