AFS TOTW: Adomah, Mane & Gradel star
The influence of African players across the leagues was telling over the weekend as ever making the AFS TOTW selection a difficult one.
The only AFS TOTW debutant this week comes in the shape of Stade Reims’ Togolese international goalkeeper Kossi Agassa. He slots in after keeping Rennes at bay as Reims secured three points and Ligue 1 safety.
Serge Aurier retains his place at right-back for the second week running after another impressive outing for French champions PSG against Montpellier. Cameroonian duo of Joel Matip and Nicolas Nkoulou partner at the heart of the AFS TOTW defense this week. They marshalled the back-line as their respective clubs Schalke and Marseille secured vital wins. Algerian Faouzi Ghoulam returns at left-back after impressing in Napoli’s win over Cesena.
Albert Adomah comes in at right-wing following his man-of-the-match performance in Middleborough’s run to the Championship play-off final. Ivorian Serey Die was immense as his Stuttgart side overcame relegation rivals Hamburg at home to give their chances of survival boost. He’s joined in the middle by Ghana’s Andre Ayew. The impressive Ghanaian recorded his tenth of the season in Marseille’s 4-0 win at Lille. St. Etienne’s Max Gradel completes the midfield in yet another appearance in the AFS TOTW. The Ivorian was instrumental in his side’s 2-1 win at Evian.
Saido Mane leads the line this week after his outstanding three minute hat-trick helped sink Aston Villa at home. The Senegalese had a brilliant all round game. He’s joined up top by Granada’s Youssef El-Arabi. The Moroccan was again on the score-sheet as Granada secured maximum points away at Real Sociedad.
